Lela Elam played all roles in the Waterfront Playhouse production of No Child.  She last appeared here in Doubt. Lela is a native South Floridian and has had the opportunity to work in some of the regions best theatres. She has appeared in productions at New Theatre, where she recieved her first Carbonell nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the play Touch, as well as Just A Kiss, for which she recieved Miami Sun Post’s’ Best Comedy Performance Female honor in 2007. Also at New Theatre, she was in Miami New Times’ Best Ensemble winning production of Fill Our Mouths. Lela has also had the amazing pleasure to work with Joseph Adler at GableStage in productions of Intimate Apparel, for which she recieved her second Carbonell Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and In The Continuum, for which she won the Carbonell Award for Best Actress, as well as Miami New Times, and Miami Sun Post’s Best Actress Awards. Also at GableStage, Lela starred in the one woman, sixteen character show No Child… She has worked with Ground Up & Rising in their production of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, for which she won Miami New Times’ Best Supporting Actress honor in 2009. She has apppeared in numerous productions at The Women’s Theatre Project including Naked Women Fully Clothed, Jar The Floor, which Miami Herald theatre critic Christine Dolen named one of the Top Five Shows of the season, Shiloh Rules, Tongue of a Bird, and The Anastasia Trials in the Court of Women. She has had the amazing opportunity to be in five of August Wilson’s ten play cycle in theatres like Mosaic Theatre, and The M Ensemble. As well as theatre, Lela has appeared in commercials, short films, and has also worked as a voice over artist. Lela began her professional career as a teen on a local television show. She is a board member of The Theatre League of South Florida as well as a member of Actors Equity. Lela wishes to send out a SUPER thank you to Sid, Audrey, and Biscuit Waldman.
