As part of the inaugural Key West Mystery Fest, Waterfront Playhouse has announced a Mystery Short Story Contest. Entries must be submitted by May 4 and winners will be announced in Solares Hill and at a brunch on Sunday, May 13, at the Westin Key West Resort & Marina.
Hy Conrad, writer/producer of the hit TV series “Monk” and “White Collar,” has written a brief, cliff-hanging introduction called “Check-Out Time.” Contestants must complete the story in 500 words or fewer.
Prizes will be awarded for Best Story, Most Creative and Best Student Entry.
Some of Key West’s most prominent mystery writers will be judges for the contest.
No writing experience is necessary — just an active imagination and a devious mind.
Prizes:Best Story: $200 plus a trophy plus two tickets to the awards brunch on May 13 plus two tickets to “Home Exchange” at Waterfront Playhouse. Most Creative Story: $100 plus two tickets to the awards brunch plus two tickets to the play at the Playhouse. Best Student Entry: $100 plus two tickets to the awards brunch on plus two tickets to the play at the Playhouse.

The Award winning Waterfront Playhouse on Mallory Square, is please to announce their On The Edge series. "With the theatre located On The Edge of the water as well as most productions chosen and designed to be performed On The Edge of the stage, it seemed like a winning title", said Managing Artistic Director Tom Thayer. Although a few productions, such as the upcoming musical The Rocky Horror Show will have more production value, the majority of productions, such as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, The Informer, Bash, and Trunk Material 2 are created and designed to be performed simply.
Another difference in On The Edge productions is the time.
