‘The Drowsy Chaperone,’ now playing at The Waterfront Playhouse, has been selling out the house since opening.

With a big cast of 18 well-known Keys actors, the story brings out plenty of song, dance and even some comedy of the belly laugh variety.

Actors get to show their chops when a reclusive theater fan plays his favorite cast album, the fictional 1928 hit ‘The Drowsy Chaperone.’

The play proceeds to play out in his drab, little apartment, now transformed for the big show.

On Broadway, “The Drowsy Chaperone” won a Tony Award and The New York Observer described it as “smashing, witty and brilliant. I loved every mad minute of it.”

“Chaperone” features more than 250 costumes, an ornate set and a big cast of 18 that includes some of Key West’s best-known musical theater talent. Among many in the cast, this scene captures Jeffrey Harwell, Marjorie Paul-Shook, J. B. McLendon, Rhett Kalman and Michael Pallansch.

The show ends Saturday, March 30. For tickets, visit: WaterfrontPlayhouse.org or call the box office at 294-5015.
