Key West, FL-The Waterfront Playhouse, a cornerstone of the Key West arts community, announces the election of longtime supporter and community leader Kate Miano as President of the Board of Directors, following the untimely passing of former Board President Christopher Elwell.
The Waterfront Playhouse has been deeply saddened by the loss of Christopher, whose unwavering dedication and leadership helped guide the theatre through seasons of growth, resilience, and artistic excellence.
“Christopher’s passion for theatre and the Key West community was unmatched. His legacy will forever be part of the fabric of the Waterfront Playhouse,” said Artistic Director Patrick New. “We are heartbroken by his loss, but we are also filled with gratitude as we welcome Kate Miano to lead us into the future.”
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, the Waterfront Playhouse will dedicate its 87th season to the memory of Christopher Elwell. In addition, a special event celebrating his life and impact on the theatre will be held mid-season. Details of the event will be announced in the coming months.
Kate Miano, a respected voice in the Key West community and a longtime advocate for the arts, brings both vision and deep local roots to her new role. Her election marks a new chapter for the Waterfront Playhouse as it continues its mission of producing bold and engaging plays and musicals for the community.
The Waterfront Playhouse extends its heartfelt thanks to its patrons, supporters, and the greater Key West community for their continued encouragement during this time of transition.

"With the theatre located On The Edge of the water as well as most productions chosen and designed to be performed On The Edge of the stage, it seemed like a winning title", said Managing Artistic Director Tom Thayer. Although a few productions, such as the upcoming musical The Rocky Horror Show will have more production value, the majority of productions, such as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, The Informer, Bash, and Trunk Material 2 are created and designed to be performed simply.
Another difference in On The Edge productions is the time.
